How water availability guides planning & development in Summit County

Do you care about thoughtful planning and development based on water availability?

All counties are required to integrate a water use and preservation element into their General Plans by December 31, 2025, according to Utah State Code.

Learn more and provide feedback on the water element in the Snyderville Basin & Eastern Summit County general plans at summitcounty.info/waterelement.

  • Round 1 feedback is open online October 9 – 17, 2025.

  • Round 2 feedback is open October 24 – November 5, 2025.

Prefer to give comments in person?

The water element for each respective General Plan will be presented at the following planning commission meetings. Public comment will be taken.

  • October 14: Synderville Basin Planning Commission (held at the Richins Building). Begins at 6 p.m.

  • October 16: Eastern Summit County Planning Commission (held at the Kamas Library). Begins at 6 p.m.

  • November 19: County Council presentation of both elements and public comment. Time TBD.

Input Needed: Summit County’s Active Transportation Network

Active transportation includes all forms of human-powered mobility like walking, cycling, and even non-mechanized wheelchair use.

After 6 years of hard work securing funds, collaborating with partners, and building connections, Summit County is updating our Active Transportation Plan. This 2025 update will build on the 2019 recommended facilities to create a countywide active transportation network.

We’re seeking public input on how to increase connectivity, safety, accessibility, and sustainability within our active transportation network. Go to summitcounty.info/activetransportation to see a map of existing conditions, learn about areas of concern, and find out what's coming in the near future.

Whether you live or work in Summit County, visit for recreation, or enjoy the trails and open spaces in any way: please submit your comments in this survey.

Have you applied for a Summit County Primary Residence Exemption?

Have you moved here full-time? Recently bought a home? Do you rent your property long-term to a Utah-domiciled resident (aka someone who pays Utah income tax)?

If the answer is YES, make sure you update and declare your primary residency status using the Primary Residential Exemption (PRE) form online at https://summitcounty.info/primaryexemption by December 1, 2025.

A property that is granted a primary residence exemption is only taxed at 55% of the market value of the home and up to one acre of land.
