Housing, Holiday Tips, and a Tax Reminder

Hear from the Housing Authority

The recently formed Summit County Housing Authority will be sharing monthly articles in this newsletter and through county-wide communications. We are excited to share an excerpt from the very first article, “Stable, affordable housing is essential for children — and for Summit County’s future,” by Kristen Schulz, director of the Early Childhood Alliance and housing authority commissioner.

“Providing families a safe, affordable, and stable place to live allows children and families to thrive. Research across public health, education, and economics shows that affordable and stable housing reduces toxic stress, improves physical and mental health, provides better educational outcomes, and creates economic stability and opportunities that last a lifetime…”

Be a Holiday Hero: Recycle

Boxes. Feasts. Leftovers. Holiday joy can pile up…literally! Do your part to recycle right:

  • Break down your cardboard before putting it in your curbside recycling bin or dumpster! Flattened boxes save tons of space and help extend the life of Summit County’s landfills.

  • Food scraps make up nearly half of what ends up in our landfill. Park City Community Foundation, Summit County, and Momentum Recycling offer curbside food waste collection to make it easy to do better. Sign up here.

  • For more tips on local recycling options, visit: summitcounty.info/wastediversion.

Let’s make room for holiday cheer, not more landfill waste!

Tax Notices Reminder

Check your mailboxes, Summit County! Tax notices were mailed beginning Friday, October 31. If you want to view/download your notice ahead of time, visit summitcountyutah.gov/treasurer. Taxes are due on Monday, December 1, 2025.

Reminder: If you've moved here full-time, recently bought a home, or rent your property long-term to a Utah-domiciled resident (aka someone who pays Utah income tax), then NOW is the time to make sure you update and declare your primary residency status using the Primary Residential Exemption (PRE) form online at summitcountyutah.gov/pre by December 1, 2025. A property that is granted a primary residence exemption is only taxed at 55% of the market value of the home and up to one acre of land.

Utah Women & Leadership Project Survey

Summit County is partnering with the Utah Women & Leadership Project to do a comprehensive study for the state of Utah related to the A Bolder Way Forward areas of focus. The deadline is November 17 (Next Monday!).

The Utah Women & Leadership Project (UWLP) is conducting a statewide study to explore more deeply Utahns’ understanding, awareness, attitudes, concerns, and perceptions around challenges that women and girls face. We welcome all individuals living in the state age 18 or older to participate. The survey will take 10–20 minutes to complete. Dr. Susan Madsen is the primary researcher for this study. If you have questions or concerns, you can contact her at [email protected] (USU IRB 15264). You can participate by clicking here.
