Last chance to take our latest Solid Waste Survey!
Summit County is developing a Solid Waste Action Plan. In plain terms, that means we’re taking another look at the 2018 Solid Waste Master Plan to identify practical strategies to extend the life of our landfill by 10 years beyond current projections, through 2063.
Reaching this goal means reducing waste by about one-third each year, with a particular focus on food waste and cardboard. Your input is essential to shaping the strategies that will get us there. Take our survey today. Survey closes Friday, February 20, 2026.
Upcoming Nonprofit Exemption Deadline
Attention Summit County Nonprofits! The deadline to submit applications for tax exemption is March 1, 2026. This is for all renewal applications and new exemptions.
Organizations can complete their annual renewal or submit an application for a new exemption using the online application system. The system will allow an organization to apply online and submit all necessary documentation.
Access the online system at summitcounty.info/exemptnpo.
Animals running wild? Who ya gonna call?
While both Summit County Animal Control and the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) love animals and have a mission to improve their welfare, they serve very different roles. Understanding these differences can help residents know who to call in various situations—and how they can help support both.
Domesticated animals (dogs, cats, pet birds, and livestock) are managed by Animal Control. Cougars, deer and elk, bears, bobcats, birds of prey, and moose and other wild animals are handled by DWR. But not every wildlife sighting or encounter needs to be reported. Check out our Animal Control article to learn when you should call and what to look for in both domestic and wild animals!
