The Solid Waste Master Plan update is underway!
Summit County is currently updating its 2018 Solid Waste Master Plan, and your input matters!
These updates recognize the progress made since the plan’s original adoption nearly a decade ago, assess changes in the local waste stream and community needs, and outline practical actions the county can take over the next 1, 5, 10, and 20 years to extend the life of our landfill as long as possible while strengthening waste diversion efforts countywide.
Earlier this month, the County launched a community survey to better understand current waste practices, priorities, and values. Now, we’re excited to share the results with you.
View the survey dashboard HERE.
The interactive dashboard allows you to filter responses by municipality, planning district, school district, and other geographic or demographic categories for deeper insight.

Extended DMV Office Closures
To ensure continued high-quality service and consistency amid temporary staffing challenges, the Kamas and Coalville DMV offices will be closed beginning Monday, January 12, 2026, through Friday, March 27, 2026. The DMV team appreciates the public’s patience and understanding.
During these closures, there are 3 different Utah DMV locations that most residents can access within 30 minutes:
Additionally, except for out-of-state title transfers, most services can now be done online on the State’s DMV Services Website, available here.
Applications for Community Planning Lab are still open!
The Community Planning Lab is a course designed for Summit County residents, community leaders, business owners, and other community stakeholders who want to be more engaged in and better understand the processes that drive local planning and land use policy decisions. The course aims to empower community members to be more involved in shaping the future of Summit County.
The course is 11 sessions long and will be held Monday evenings from 6:00 - 8:30 pm, from February 23 to May 4, 2026. It will be held at the Ledges Conference Room in Coalville for the first 7 sessions and the Sheldon Richins Big Auditorium in Kimball Junction for the last 4 sessions.
“Summit County created a housing authority in 2025 and set ambitious goals to increase the availability of affordable housing throughout the county. While these efforts are important, they also assume that community members already understand what a housing authority does and are familiar with the terminology commonly used in discussions about affordable housing.
To establish a clear baseline and help residents better understand this topic, we want to share definitions and explain programs using the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD as a key source.”
